Heather Jennings came into the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) program, as a displaced worker (DW), after she had been laid off from her job at GEICO where she had been employed for many years. She was devastated when she lost her job because she was a single parent with young adult children who still relied on her for financial support and guidance. Heather was trying to decide what career path to take because she was starting over as an older adult in the workforce, concerned that this may be a factor in finding employment. The Career Scope instrument reflected that Heather has the interest and aptitude to pursue training as a RN. She had mentioned that she always wanted to become a nurse, but felt maybe at this time it was too late for her to pursue. With encouragement she realized that she could pursue her dream and after several meetings she decided to enroll at Germanna Community College. Heather maintained a GPA of 3.86 or higher and graduated December, 2013, with honors. In February of this year she took her licensing exam and in March secured employment with Autumn Care of Madison.
